Australia is one of the world's leading wine producers and exporters.
Powered by new FTAs and firm import demand from the Asian region, the Australian wine industry has achieved a 10% increase in average export price in FY2016. Correspondingly, the Australian wine industry has also witnessed the highest average grape price since 2009, reaching 526 AUD/tonne.
In 2017, the average purchased price climbed further to 565 AUD/ tonne, representing a 10-year high level.

Based on a wine sector survey released by Winemaker's Federation of Australia, the 2016 red crush is estimated to be 935,466 tonnes, which represents a 10.3% increase compared to 2015 level. Meanwhile, white crush increased by 2.0%, reaching 871,741 tonnes.

China has become the top export market for Australian wine in 2016, more than doubling sales to 474 million AUD, with a surge in demand for premium Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon.
Bulk wine exports increased 5% in volume overall but at prices 16% below 2014. The new free trade agreements with China, Japan and Korea are expected to further stimulate bulk wine exports from 2016.
