Strong Provence 2016 vintage on track to support export plans in 2017 with the US a key target
The wine authorities in Provence have released the latest production statistics for the 2016 havest.
It reports that:
- the 2016 harvest in Provence produced 1,312 000 hectolitres, which is on track to be around the same size as 2015.
- the yields are high enough for Provence to confidently predict it can “supply all export markets”.
- one of its key targets for 2017 is to build on its foundations in the United States where it claims to be the number one French wine category.
- Latest estimates of volumes for the three main AOP areas represented by the CIVP suggest:
- Côtes de Provence is seeing steady growth
- volumes of Coteaux d’Aix-en-Provence have risen by 4% in the past 12 months
- volumes of Coteaux Varois en Provence have decreased by 4%.
- the CIVP says the 2016 vintage will have good colour quality, very fragrant rosés and whites, light rosés, and rounded and well-balanced reds.
- In 2016 exports of Rosé de Provence increased by 22% (January to November 2016 Vs January-November 2015) with 26% of Provence volumes exported.
