Premium wines driving growth of Gallo's brands in the UK
Californian wine giant E&J Gallo has reported that growth in the UK is being driven by its premium wines, with a full fifth of its still wine sales coming from those priced in the plus £7 bracket.
"Sales show that slightly higher price points do not discourage customers because the increase in quality is seen as being worth the price,” E&J Gallo channel director Mark Stammers told Drinks Business. “Over the festive period we expect to see premium wine sales increase further as consumers tlook to treat themselves and their guests.”
One of Gallo’s standout performers in recent months has been Carniov, its premium red Zinfandel brand that was launched five years ago. It has enjoyed an impressive 172% year on year growth in 2018, with volumes leaping by 162%.
The company’s Dark Horse brand also put in a sterling performance, jumping by 81% in value and 82% in volume following new listings, as well as the launch of a rose variety in the spring.
