Spain, the world's leading bulk wine exporter sees volumes dip
Spain remains the world leader in bulk wine exports, though it has seen volumes drop and value growth slow down, according to the lastest year on year figures from the Bulk Wine Club.
Spain sold approximately 1,177 million litres amounting to 673m Euros of bulk wine in the past year, with volumes down by 6.3% and value dipping to a still buoyant 21.2%.
At the same time the average price has surged and is now 57 cents per litre, a 29.4% increase from last year’s 44 cents. However, this year’s bountiful harvest in France and Italy, Spains two key export markets alongside Germany make it highly likely that Spanish exports will slow down in the coming months.
Italy is also seeing its bulk wine exports drop, down by nearly a quarter (24%) year on year in volume terms, although the value of sales has crept up by 2% on the back of hefty (35%) price increases.
Argentina has also seen its volumes jump by nearly a third (30%), after the terrible 2017 vintage, although a 40% drop in price has resulted in invoicing considerably less.
Conversely, Chile and France both saw their volumes drop, while the value of those sales increased. New Zealand bulk wine remains the most expensive in the world at 2.23 Euros per litre.
