Spending on alcohol in the US, 2018
- Spending on alcohol in the US was up by over 5% to $12.4 billion last year.
- The equivalent wholesale value of alcohol sold in 2018 amounted to $125.3 billion, a 3.61% increase on the previous year.
- An additional 2.4 million people reached the legal drinking age, a total of 240.7 million people.
- Wine volumes were up by 1.4% to 421.8 million nine litre cases, with spending up by 4.91% to $72.2 billion
- The average retail retail price for a 750 ml equivalent bottled increased to $10.84.
- In contrast, beer volumes were down by 2% to 200 million barrels, though consumers spending on this category increased by 5% to $117.3 billion
- Over the same period, spirits volumes were up by 2.9% to 235.6 million nine litre cases, with a total spend of $64.3 billion, a 5.6% increase.
