Bulgarian wine sector eyes up Chinese market

The Bulgarian wine industry has its sights set on the Chinese market, according to the country’s minister of agriculture and food Hristo Bozukov.
While the wine sector in Bulgaria had been stagnating, Hristo said that European aid and subsidies had helped stabilize the market, resulting in the planting of new vineyards and increased wine production.
Last year Bulgaria exported more than five million litres of wine to China, and that is set to increase.
Statistics from the Bulgarian ministry show that 38.712 hectares of vineyards produced 261,820 tons of grapes, which was then used to make 1.3 million hectoliters of wine in 2016.
