How much do Brits spend on wine?
- Older Brits spend more on wine than any other age group in the country, with those aged between 50 and 64 splashing out £265 a year on wine.
- This is more than double the £114 a year spent by the under-30’s, and in excess of the £203 forked out by the 30 – 49 age group.
- Pensioners also contribute to the wine economy, with households aged over 65 spending £1.47 bn on wine a year.
- That’s enough to buy more than 113 million bottles of English sparkling wine. England currently produces a total of five million bottles of wine a year, 66% of which is sparkling.
- The average household in the UK will spend £12,600 on wine at home across a lifetime, far outstripping the £6,400 spent on beers and ciders, and the £5,800 spent on spirits.
- Over a lifetime the average UK household will also spend £23,209 on alcohol bought outside the home, bringing the total lifetime spend to £48,200.
