Portugal's wine exports jump over 8% with sales to Russia and Poland driving growth

Portugal’s wine exports jumped by over 8% last year reaching a value of €925m according to ViniPortugal.
“The year 2021 was highly positive for exports of Portuguese wines, compared to the same period in 2020”, said Frederico Falcão, president of ViniPortugal . “This great growth in sales in value almost doubled the growth of 2020, with great growth in new markets, but also a great growth in exports to our traditional markets.”
France is the biggest market for Portuguese wines, accounting for €116 m in value, while Russia posted the greatest growth, with sales rocketing by over 34% to 10.98m. Poland also saw significant growth in exports, with sales up by 19.54% to €31m in 2021.
This was followed by Germany, where shipments increased by 13.46% to €54.67m, and Denmark, where exports were up by 6.68% to €22.97m. Other markets which saw increased shipments include the US, where exports were up by over 13%, to €104m Euros, and Brazil up by 8.65% to €73.7m . China too saw Portuguese imports up by 9.55% to €14.27m Euros.
However, shipments to Angola were down by 7.4% and to Sweden by just over 4%.
