Organic wine sales soar at Majestic

Organic wine sales jumped by over a quarter over the past year at Majestic, the UK’s largest specialist wine retailer.
The company announced that it sold 620,000 bottles of organic wine between August 2021 to July 20222, representing a 27.4% increase in year on year sales. According to the IWSR, Europe accounts for 60% of the world’s organic wine prodcution, with Italy accounting for the lion’s share at 54.8hl, followed by Spain with 44.4m hl and France on 24.1m hl. However the countries with the most enthuisiastic organic wine consumers are France, Germany and the UK.
By the end of 2021 there was a 5% increase in organic wine consumption, with this figure expected to double to at least 10% by the end of 2022. And the IWSR has predicted that the total organic wine market will reach over 87m cases by the end of this year, with Europe accounting for 78% of the entire organic market. This would represent an annual compound growth of 9.2% from 2017 to 2022, making organic wine the best performing category.
Majestic’s top selling organic wines include Alluria Organic Pinot Grigio, which retail at £9.99 per bottle; La Raia Il Borgo organic Gavi, £14.99 and Suranic Costarossa Primitivo di Manduria, £12.99, all from Italy.
